Gatlinburg Travel Guide

We are back from our honeymoon and we are blown away by how much fun we had in Gatlinburg. If you are wanting a relaxing, yet fun trip with your significant other or family, this is perfect for you.

Where to Stay

We stayed at the Tennessee Treehouse in Pigeon Forge. This is a romantic place to stay for a couple. With giant window doors that open to lay in bed and watch the stars and a fire pit and hot tub you are sure to have the perfect romantic get away.

Where to Eat

Big Daddy Pizza (Pigeon Forge) - We ate here the first night because we were so exhausted from traveling. Let me just say this place did not disappoint. The pretzel sticks are amazing! I am still craving these.

The Old Mill (Pigeon Forge)- If you are a big breakfast eater, this is a must on your list. We ate breakfast here on day one. We were lucky to get a seat on the river and were able to watch the ducks and geese swim around while we ate. The pancakes here are also soo good. I am not a huge pancake eater but I ate almost all of mine. Tip: Eat here early to beat the crowds.

Sunliner Diner (Pigeon Forge)- The atmosphere in this place is enough to want to go eat here. This would be perfect for breakfast for lunch. We ate here for breakfast and loved it. Not only was the food good, but the inside is a 50's diner. Not to mention I ate in a pink Cadillac. The wait staff also dresses in 50's attire.

Pancake Pantry (Gatlinburg)- We had to wake up super early to get here when they opened (7am). We got there at 7:30am and still had a small wait. The chocolate chip pancakes were my favorite thing here.

Margaritaville (Pigeon Forge)- We ate lunch here one day while stalling. The burger and fries were so good! We also had drinks that had Ole Smokey Moonshine in them which was fun since we did a moonshine tasting there.

Chesapeake's (Gatlinburg)- If you love seafood or want a little bit nicer dinner, this is an absolute must eat at. This was the best meal we had. We had the lobster appetizer and I had the shrimp for dinner. Andrew had raw oysters and wished he had ordered it for a meal.

The Peddlers Steakhouse (Gatlinburg)- We ate here for a nice dinner and some good steak. This place was recommended to us by several people. While the food was amazing the atmosphere is more laid back and family oriented. Tip: Make reservations as it tends to get busy.

What to Do

Titanic Museum (Pigeon Forge)- This museum if for all the Titanic obsessed people like me. When you arrive you get a boarding pass from a person who was on the ship. Was you are on board you explore the Titanic with artifacts, images, and stories. Explore 28 degree water, sleeping cabins, and the grand staircase. Find out if you survived the wreck at the end of the tour. Tip: Buy your tickets ahead of time as they sell out quick.

Alcatraz East Crime Museum (Pigeon Forge)- Andrew loved this museum. This museum show historically famous criminals. They have so many artifacts from murders, guns from gangsters, and we even saw Ted Bundy's VW. Tip: go to this museum as soon as they open. They let people walk freely so it gets very crowded.

Gatlinburg Sky Bridge (Gatlinburg)- Take the ski lift to the top of the mountain and walk across the sky bridge . Hopefully you aren't afraid of heights, because halfway through the bridge is glass. Our favorite part was the restaurant/ bar at the top of the mountain with gorgeous views.

Moonshine Tasting- This was our favorite part of the trip. All around there are moonshine tastings. Ole Smoky Moonshine costs $5 per person to taste 5/6 moonshine. The pourers are hilarious so it is almost like a drink and a show. After the tasting you get a $5 voucher to spend in the gift shop so the its like the tasting is free. There is also Sugarlands Moonshine. We tried this place and got to taste 12 moonshines. While the taste of Ole Smoky was our favorite both were very fun and something we want to do with friends.

Gatlinburg Aquarium- So let me just start off by saying if you have younger kids this place is so fun and kids will love it. If you are an adult Andrew and I both agree that for the price this was something we could have passed on. One thing we did enjoy was riding the conveyer belt under the large shark tank. If you have kids they do a penguin parade.

Anakeesta (Gatlinburg)- Different than the Sky Bridge, Anakeesta is a park on top of a mountain. Anakeesta has treehouses, bridges, and a playground for kids. Coming this year is a full bar for the adults to enjoy while the kids play. They have restaurants and shops to enjoy, as well as a mountain coaster and zip line. Again I highly recommend this with kids. Tip: Buy your tickets online before you go so you do not have to wait in the long line for tickets.

The Christmas Store ( Pigeon Forge)- Calling all Christmas lovers! This store is a Christmas paradise. Be careful if you flew because you wont be able to fit all of your decor in your suitcase. Don't forget to check out Mrs. Clause's bakery with lots of treats!

The Island (Pigeon Forge)- This is a great area for the family. There is a lot of shopping, restaurants, and fun activities. We did the Sky Fly ride and had a blast.
